Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
In-person suicide intervention training for workplaces, healthcare teams and community organisations. Suicide can affect any workplace, service, family or community. Many people want to help when someone is struggling, but they may feel unsure what to say, how to ask about suicide, or how to support someone safely in the moment.
UK Patient Care delivers Suicide First Aid Helper Training through the recognised LivingWorks ASIST programme, also known as Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. This is a practical, two-day, in-person course designed to help participants recognise when someone may be thinking about suicide, engage in a direct and compassionate conversation and work with them to develop a safety plan.
This course is suitable for organisations that want staff to feel more prepared, confident and capable when supporting people who may be at risk of suicide. It is especially relevant for healthcare, education, housing, social care, security, local authority, charity and frontline support roles.
Suicide First Aid Helper Training Course
Course Overview
The Suicide First Aid Helper course is delivered face to face only. It is not an online course, as the learning relies on group discussion, skills practice, guided conversations, observation and supported role-play.
Over two full days, learners explore how suicide risk may present, why people may experience suicidal thoughts and how to respond in a calm, structured and compassionate way. The course gives participants the opportunity to practise the skills needed to speak with someone at risk and support them towards immediate safety.
This is not a general mental health awareness course. It is a more focused suicide intervention course for people who may need to respond when someone is experiencing suicidal thoughts or showing signs that they may be at risk.
