Personal Safety & Breakaway Training Course

Personal Safety & Breakaway Training is relevant for ANYBODY; the information and techniques taught can be used in any setting, both professional and personal. The training is essential for industries where staff, including lone workers, are more likely to be physically attacked. Our comprehensive training course is designed to equip staff with the skills and knowledge needed to ensure their personal safety and effectively manage challenging situations in the workplace.

Healthcare workers often face situations that can put their safety at risk, whether it’s dealing with aggressive patients or managing challenging behaviours. That’s why it’s crucial for healthcare professionals to be prepared and trained in personal safety and breakaway techniques.

Personal Safety & Breakaway Training Course Overview

Our Personal Safety & Breakaway Training course covers a range of topics, including understanding personal safety risks, recognising early warning signs of aggression, lone working safety tips, effective communication strategies, use of force legislation and practical breakaway techniques. Participants will learn how to assess potentially dangerous situations, de-escalate conflicts, and safely disengage from physical confrontations where necessary.
At UK Patient Care, we understand the unique challenges that healthcare professionals face when it comes to personal safety. Our trainers are experienced professionals who have firsthand knowledge of the risks and situations that healthcare workers encounter in their day-to-day practice.

By investing in our Personal Safety & Breakaway Training Course, healthcare professionals can enhance their confidence, improve their ability to manage challenging situations, and ultimately ensure their own safety and the safety of others. Our training programs are flexible and can be delivered on-site at your healthcare facility, making it convenient for busy professionals to access training.

FAQ’s

How long is the course?

The course is completed over half a day (3 hours). The times can be changed to meet the needs of your organisations.

Can I have videos of the techniques?
Yes. We have an online video library of all the breakaway techniques so you can keep refreshing your knowledge.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes, you will get a CPD accredited certificate from UK Patient Care.
Am I allowed to defend myself if I am attacked?
Yes, under UK law, you are permitted to use reasonable force to defend yourself if you are being attacked or fear imminent harm. This principle falls under the right to self-defence as outlined in the Criminal Law Act 1967.

What counts as ‘reasonable’ depends on the situation. You are not expected to measure your response precisely in the heat of the moment, but your actions should be proportionate to the threat you face. For example, if someone is attacking you, you may strike back to stop the assault. However, continuing to use force once the threat has passed may be deemed excessive.

If you genuinely believe your life or safety is in danger, the law typically offers protection even if your response results in injury to the attacker. It’s important to contact the police as soon as possible after an incident to report what happened.
