Why Feedback Is Central to Everything We Do
Every training session we deliver is followed by structured feedback. This is not a tick-box exercise. It is a critical part of how we improve, adapt and refine our training.
Feedback is captured via a simple online form, making the process paperless, quick and easy for staff to complete while the session is still fresh in their minds. While it only takes a few minutes to submit, the impact of that feedback is significant.
We carefully review responses after every session, looking at how the training landed with staff on the ground. This allows us to ask important questions, such as:
- Was the pace right, or do we need to slow things down or move more quickly?
- Did the balance between theory and practical work feel right?
- Are staff asking for more scenario-based discussion or deeper explanation around decision-making and governance?
This ongoing review process ensures the training continues to evolve rather than remain static.

Learning From Frontline Experience
One of the most valuable aspects of feedback is the insight it gives us into real-world challenges. The discussions that take place during and after training sessions are just as important as the formal content itself.
Frontline staff bring lived, first-hand experience into the room. They share recent incidents, pressures and situations they are dealing with day to day. This allows training to be grounded in reality rather than theory alone, helping teams connect learning directly to their working environment.
These conversations shape how we deliver future sessions and ensure the training remains practical, relevant and credible.
Tailoring Training Across Different Services
Devon Partnership NHS Trust covers a broad range of services, from dementia wards through to forensic settings. Feedback helps us understand how search training needs can differ between departments, patient groups and risk profiles.
As our knowledge grows alongside the feedback received, we are able to tailor training more precisely. This ensures each department gets the most value from the session and that the content reflects the specific challenges staff face in their own clinical environment.
Transparency and Engagement at Management Level
All feedback collected is shared directly with the hospital’s management team. This gives clear visibility of staff engagement and response to the training while delivery is ongoing.
It also supports governance, quality assurance and continuous improvement, ensuring training outcomes are measurable rather than assumed. The training is then followed up with online resources to help with consistency and standardisation throughout the service.

Real Impact: Safer Environments for Everyone
Achieving 100% positive feedback across more than 500 staff is something we are genuinely proud of, but it is also a responsibility. Feedback drives improvement and improvement drives safer, more effective practice.
By listening to frontline voices, studying the detail and adapting our approach, we ensure our training remains relevant, responsive and effective across all mental health settings.
Our specialist search training designed for mental health environments is already making a positive difference across the sector. By embedding trauma-informed searching, we’re helping keep patients and staff safer while promoting best practice and empowering teams.
Here’s what some of our recent participants said:
- “Why have we not been doing this before?”
- “I hope everybody is getting this training as it will genuinely save lives.”
- “This course has opened my eyes and made me realise the safety of EVERYBODY has been compromised for a long time.”
These honest reflections show how vital this training is in addressing long-standing gaps in mental health searching.
